WHO TAUGHT BRITISHER POLO??

 According to Guineas book of world record 1997 POLO is a sport originated in Manipur India in 3100 B.C. The following image of players of Manipur getting ready to play POLO.

One of the world oldest steam sports POLO known as SANGOL KANGI , in which  Sagol meaning pony and Kangi means game of sticks in Manipur has boon an integral part of states culture for centuries.



According to several historical resources the first POLO match was organised between the royal friends of king NONGDA LAIREN PAKHNGBA in 33 AD. N Vijayalakshmi Bara a Historian states that this sport can be traced back to deity Mrjing people worship him by offering him a stick and a ball when any animal in their house fall sick.

                         HOW DID THE SPORT LEFT INDIA AND BECAME POPULER IN EUROPE??

Around 1854 it was a Manipuri Maharaja Sir Chandrakirti Shing introduced a game to British officer at Cachar. From there Lt Joseph Ford of British army's Sylhet Light Infantry, took it to the west. Thats how he got the title title THE FATHER OF MORDEN POLO.From there the formation of clubs started and POLO became famoun in west.This was the journey of POLO from SANGOL KANGI to POLO and from Manipur to Europe.
